SAC donates computers to support education and bridge the digital divide

Pápa, 2 August 2023 – The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) has recently donated six pallets of decommissioned Information Technology (IT) equipment, comprising 273 items including desktop computers, laptops, and computer screens, to ‘Veszprém Archdiocese Charitas’, a local charity experienced in humanitarian and educational support.

The technological equipment will aid underprivileged schools and children who lack sufficient access to such facilities. The SAC's decision to donate these decommissioned IT items, which otherwise would have been destroyed, marks a significant departure from conventional practices and demonstrates the organization's commitment to serving the local community where it is based.

In Hungary's current digital landscape, one computer accommodates 5-6 students in schools on average*, compounded by at least three people using a single device in 7% of the households. More alarmingly, in 12% of households there is not a single computer**. The SAC's donation, executed through Charitas, aims to enhance the access to IT devices for underprivileged schools and children in the region.

The SAC's donation of outdated IT equipment sets an inspiring example for other international organizations. By taking a leading role in facilitating the redistribution of decommissioned technology, the SAC fosters positive change and sustainability, and enhances educational opportunities.
