Pápa, 29 August 2023 - The Strategic Airlift Capability, SAC, honoured its commitment to participate at two airshows a year by representing the programme at Bucharest, Romania, on 25-26 August.
One of the program’s C-17s flew to member nation Bucharest’s air show, BIAS, in late August. The air show, which counted 100 000 visitors, provided an excellent opportunity for the SAC to promote its capabilities in front of the Romanian public. 25 members of the SAC team from different nations engaged with visitors during the day. Spouses of SAC team members talked about what life is like in Hungary.
Perfect Venue
Colonel Jason Mills, Commander of Heavy Airlift Wing, said that BIAS provided a perfect venue to display the program’s unique capability to the Romanian public and government officials.
Two Part Display
The display consisted of two parts: one static display of the plane and one information tent. Many visitors took the chance to walk thou the plane and talk to the crew. At the tent the visitors could try on flight helmets, masks, talk to crew and have the opportunity to enter a photo competition to win a C-17 model.
The goal of the exhibition was to promote the distinct multi-national aspects of the program and also dispel rumors and myths about where the crew live and work and how the program operate the aircraft.
Satisfying visit
Colonel Jason Mills was satisfied with the visit and thought that the airfield and Romanian military hosts were extremely accommodating and ensured the C-17 was a centerpiece of the SAC program.
“Our display team pulled out all the stops and ensured every guest from the youngest child to the oldest adult learned about our program and its unique mission set”, he concludes.
