EU Ambassadors witness the Strategic Airlift Capability in action

Pápa, 17 April 2023 - The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) recently welcomed a historic visit from twenty-three Ambassadors and representatives of European Union countries to Hungary. This high-level group visit marks the first of its kind in SAC’s history.

The visit was initiated by Sweden’s Ambassador to Hungary, His Excellency Dag Hartelius, in honor of Sweden’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2023. As security policy is one of the main focuses of the Swedish Presidency, Ambassador Hartelius invited his EU colleagues to see Sweden’s most significant military footprint in a multinational military cooperation initiative.

During the visit, the Ambassadors and representatives were given a firsthand look at the unique construct of the SAC and how the programme became a flagship of multinational military pooling and sharing. They were impressed by the SAC’s capabilities and the dedication of the personnel who operate it.

The successful visit highlights the importance of international cooperation in the field of military defence. The SAC serves as an excellent example of how countries can work together to achieve a common goal.
