Romania, one of the twelve Member Nations of the SAC, requested an emergency response mission to transport medical equipment to the capital, Bucharest from Seoul, South Korea last week. SAC 01, one of the three Boeing Globemaster C-17's was ready to take off from home station Pápa only 72 hours after receiving the request.

The cargo consisted of 45 tons of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sets. This means 100,000 sets in 2,000 boxes (20 kg each), all built by the crew on spot, in South Korea. Romania is going to use these much-needed PPE sets to supply their people battling COVID-19 at the front line.

This mission was a coordinated effort of the multinational teams in Command and Control, Aerial Port, aircrew, and every other unit in the Strategic Airlift Capability; having the commander of SAC's operational arm, the Heavy Airlift Wing, USAF Colonel James Sparrow on board. It is a prime example of the agility of the programme, its rapid reaction time, and the efficiency of a multinational team.
