Strategic Airlift Capability flies temporary housing units to Türkiye

Pápa, 21 February 2023 – The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) transported 500 humanitarian tents amounting to 30 tons to Incirlik, Türkiye today with a C-17 heavy airlift cargo aircraft.

In an operation initiated by NATO, SAC member Sweden used SAC flight hours to transport family tents from Pakistan to Incirlik, a logistics hub for humanitarian and disaster relief operations in Türkiye. Each 55 kg tent is able to provide shelter to three people on 23 square meters.

The aircrew, together with ground handling workers, was building the special cargo pallets used for C-17 transport from tents and pallet-bases for 8 hours during the night in Pakistan.

Since 7 February, the SAC has flown eight missions to transport 279 tonnes of vital supplies to Türkiye on behalf of Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, and the United States.
